Arkansas River |
The Ark is on fire! Golden Stones and PMD's are starting to hatch above Salida the water is starting to clear. Dry dropper is the way to go try using a Para-Hopper, Para-Hare's ear size 12-16 as for the dropper Hare's Ears, Pheasant tails, Shop Vac's sizes 14-16. The Arkansas is dropping and clearing! The hatches are happening! We are seeing Caddis, BWOs and others starting to emerge! Water temps are finally offering more consistent hatches and feeding activity. Great dry fly fishing has been reported around the Buena Vista area as of 6-24. The Ark still has the ability to 'blow out' at any time, so call us at the shop for an up to the minute report before you go. Our Private water above Salida is fishing great and our clients have been catching some really nice fish in the 16-23 inch range. Large Browns and Rainbows are eating aggressively. Book a trip on the private water quick - the dates are filling up fast! |

| Colorado River |
|---|
The Upper Colorado has been dropping and clearing above the Williams Fork confluence. The Salmon flies have been hatching producing some great fishing. Also we have been seeing some great Blue Wing Olive hatches as well! Use big Stones, Salmon fly patterns, Prince Nymphs, Flashback Pheasant Tails, Caddis Emergers, Crystal Phesant tails and more! As of 6-14 the William's Fork is near 500cfs range which is pretty high for such a small river, but fishable. At the confluence it is high as well but starting to fish good. A good change of pace is Pike fishing in the William's Fork flats...Double Bunnies, Electric Skunk Buggers, and Deceivers have all been taking fish. |
The Colorado River below Gore Canyon has been off color with high flows continuing to climb. Water clarity has been poor at best. The conditions here are day to day though, so give us a call at the shop for up to the minute reports. Try using: Stoneflies, Pheasant Tails, Prince Nymphs, Crystal Pheasant Tails, Copper Johns, Chartruese Copper Johns, Barr's Emergers, WD-40's, Egg Patterns, small Flashback Pheasant tails, San Juan Worms, big Kaufman stones, Skunk Buggers, Autumn Splendors and more. Also look for Salmon fly Nymphs! |
| Blue River |
|---|
With Dillon Reservoir finally full and spilling well over 800 cfs as of 7-2, the Blue is literally 'heating up'! Water temps in the tailwater stretch were 56.8 by midday...great temps for insect hatches and feeding activity. Look for the Green Drake Hatch, coming soon! Perhaps delayed by a week or so this year, but we're expecting a good one any day now. Usually the end of June and early July is when it is going off! |

| South Platte River |
|---|
The South Platte has been fishing fair to good as of 6-24, with high swollen water making things difficult. Angling has been best with hopper-dropper rigs (yes, they have been eating the hopper already), and streamers fished under cut banks and in back eddys. Flows on the 'dream stream' seem to have stabilized (for now) just over 320 cfs and the fishing should improve. Spinney Mtn Reservoir is on fire! The callibaetis is in full swing and large fish and good numbers are being landed daily. If you haven't fished Spinney you are missing out! Don't own a boat? Book a Lake Float with our experienced guides for and unforgettable experience. For a change of pace in the South Park area try casting to some Carp in the flats of Elevenmile reservoir. Carp are very active this time of year in Elevenmile and small buggers cast to 'mudding' fish can have you to your backing in no time! Favorable reports have also been coming out of Elevenmile Canyon...clear water, warmer temps, and an abundance of trout have been producing some great fishing. |
